JACKSON HAS A BIG DAY FOR THE MAROON
Bijee Jackson '18 had a stellar day on the Woodberry’s track against some formidable competition. Jackson opened up her day with a new personal best in the 55-meter hurdles and then came back and ran a strong leg on the girls 4 x 200-meter relay team that ran a season best time and qualified for the Eastern States Championships in New York City in late February. If that wasn’t enough Jackson was able to recover and come back with her strongest 400-meter performance of the season to take 1st place in the final 4 x 400-meter relay of the day. Jackson had some quality teammates around her all evening with training partner and track specialist Dawn Farquharson '18 ran a close 3rd place in the 55-meter hurdles and also had a gutsy performance in the 4 x 200-meter relay battling for her entire lap and running the fastest split on the team. Farquharson was joined on the 4 x 400-meter relay by Jackson, Jahsaiah Moses '19 and Claire Boehm '20 who moved up to #2 in the State Rankings in this event.
BOYS TAKE 1ST PLACE ON WFS TRACK
Litchfield Ajavon '19 continued his unbeaten streak in the 55-meter hurdles and ran a solid leg on the 4 x 200-meter team that took 1st place. Elijah Gaines '20 had a breakout leg on the relay team along with veteran speedster Sam Kamara '19 and anchor leg Jonathan Sutherland '17.
Along with some strong relay performances, The Maroon came back from this away meet some encouraging individual performances. Senior leader Camden Alford '17 matched her all time personal best time in the 500-meters battling right to the finish line. Newcomer Alli Boehm '20 ran a a strong race as well over the 500-meter distance to have two EHS athletes in the Top-10 rankings for the event for the first time. Isabel Marshall '17 continues to inch closer to her all-time best in the event, knocking 3 seconds off of her season’s best. Abigael Ajuma '17 also had a strong day and her hard work has been paying off this season. After a strong leg on the 4 x 800-meter relay Abigael ran just off her personal best in the 1000-meter race, setting her up for a strong State Meet.
Anna Smith '18 matched her all-time best in the High Jump and Grant Neagli '17 represented EHS in the Shot Put circle, steadily improving week after week throwing a personal best and joining teammate Chris Fournier '17 in the Top-10 State rankings. Shedler Fervius '18 and Jahsaiah Moses '19 had a strong debut’s in the Triple Jump as well, setting themselves up for a strong end to the season.
