JV Field Hockey Fights Losing Battle Against Strong Opposition
The Maroon played the JV team of a Varsity program that is ranked first in the state. The level of speed and skill was a shock for Maroon as the players adjusted.
Annie Thomas '22 started in goal and within the first ten minutes, there were two goals created off of corner plays in the circle. The lineup was adjusted back with a heavy defense to adjust and a heavy midfield plan dissolved to a more defensive strategy due to VES' skill with attack. Olivia Taiwo '22, Sophie Novitsky '21, Olivia Moore '22, and Annie Durden '22 all played an incredibly tight defensive game to hold TES to those first two goals. Landon O'Malley '22 finished the second half with strong saves and bravery to help defense become a fortress. Again, Taiwo had at least two saves of shots. Moore, Novitsky, and Durden made smart transitions out of the circle and brought the ball up farther than they had against the most advanced skilled players we have seen.
Elle Dorrian '22, LucyHankins '22, Catherine Mackinnon '22, Annie Caine '22, Hadley Applegate '22, and Natasha Edwards '22 all used their speed and heart to create offensive plays into the circle but could not generate a goal this time. Gigi Friedman '21, , and Forbes Dudley '21 all held the midfield and created transitions up the field with their finesse play.
