The girls varsity softball team faced a nail-biting one-run loss against St. John Paul the Great High School.
Tiffany Stowers '20 was on the mound, giving up seven hits, no walks, and struck out 3. The Maroon's offense had a total of nine hits. Nicole Carino ’19 and Halsey Ziglar ‘19 each had one hit. Barrett Carney ’19, Judy Liu ’18, and Lilly Wilcox ’18 each had two hits with runners in scoring position. Stowers rocked such a beautiful home run to left field that St. John Paul the Great intentionally walked her in the next two at-bats.
The girls faced a few challenges in this game that prevented them from the win: defense had six errors throughout the game that cost them six unearned runs. There were also several costly strike-outs that left too many runners on base. In innings 4-7, the bats came alive and the girls did a great job of putting together key hits and running aggressively to get extra bases. We scored eight runs in three innings and managed to tie it up at 8-8 in the 7th. Unfortunately, the girls were unable to hold the tie for a chance at another at-bat, and ended with an 8-9 loss.
