French Exchange Students Arrive on Campus

Each April, Episcopal welcomes a group of French students from Stanislas in Paris as part of a longstanding exchange program. This year, 12 French students traveled to experience life at EHS, soaking in everything from American history in Washington, D.C. to life on dorm as a high schooler.

During their time here, the French students explored many museums and historical landmarks like Mount Vernon, Lincoln Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, the U.S. Naval Academy, and the White House. They also enjoyed a taste of American culture through Shake Shack, and by traveling home with their host during the Easter long weekend.

Eve, a student from Stanislas, was paired with junior Virginia Goodwin. Reflecting on her few weeks at EHS, Eve shared that her first impression was how “big and very welcoming” the school felt. What stood out most to her though, was the unique student-teacher relationships she observed in and outside the classroom. “The connection students here have with their teachers is something I’ve never seen before. The students are always seeing the good and enjoying every minute.” When asked what she would take away from the experience, Eve shared, “Episcopal has made me so happy. The students here make me want to become a better person when I go back to Paris.”

This upcoming June, EHS students will travel to Paris for the second leg of the exchange program. There, they will live with the same student they welcomed at EHS, attend classes at Stanislas, and experience the unique culture of Paris. The exchange will continue to impact students over the summer and beyond, building cross-cultural friendship and understanding. “This is the best educational experience you can possibly have,” French teacher Bodhi Amos said.
