Richard M. Stubbs

Departments and Positions:
• Mathematics Teacher
Biography:
Rick joined the EHS faculty in the fall of 1977. He served as chair of mathematics from 1990 to 2002, and as a head coach in soccer (for (14 years) and in baseball (5 years), as well as an assistant in baseball and the girls’ soccer teams.

From 1999 to 2004 he spent a week in Fort Collins, Colorado as an Advanced Placement Exam reader in Calculus and has attended many national math education conferences.

Outside of academics, and during his college years, Rick spent four summers volunteering at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library archives, working on educational programs and with the Robert Kennedy papers.

When not directly involved with his EHS responsibilities, he enjoys attending baseball games, visiting Arlington National Cemetery, the Marine Corps Museum and historic sites like Antietam, Gettysburg and Harpers Ferry, as well as nature sites and National Parks..

When describing the personal values that most influence his work at EHS, Rick reflected, “Robert Kennedy gave an historic speech in South Africa in 1966 about sending ‘tiny ripples of hope’ that, 'coming from all corners of the planet, rise up into a tidal wave of change for the human good.' Though my influence is not nearly that ‘worldly,’ it is my goal, as a teacher, coach, or advisor, to try to provide a few tiny ripples in a young person’s life that make a positive difference."
