The 2018 Spring Play production of Peter/Wendy enjoyed a strong two-day run during Spring Family Weekend on April 20 & 21.
For the first time in Spring Play history, the play was performed outdoors in the woods of Laird Acres. Viewers could walk or were escorted to the woods via shuttles and were encouraged to bring blankets for seating for the surprisingly brisk evening performances.
Peter/Wendy is a lyrical, atmospheric interpretation of Peter Pan. Playwright Jeremy Bloom strips J.M. Barrie's original story down to its essence. In the play, Peter lures Wendy away from her nursery to the magical world of Neverland, where she joins his adventures with Tinker Bell, Tiger Lily, and the menacing Captain Hook. It is a low-tech, inventive, and often humorous adaptation that pays homage to the darker themes of the original.
“Being able to step outside of the theatre and explore our beautiful campus was a real treat,” said Bill Patti, theater director. “The students really embraced being outdoors and using nature to retell the time-tested story of Peter Pan. It was a wonderful learning experience and a great opportunity to engage with our surroundings!”
