For the eleventh year in a row, the boys varsity basketball team qualified for the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division I tournament. This year, the team entered with the no. 6 overall seed.
In the opening round, EHS hosted the #11 seed, St. Christopher's School from Richmond, VA. Episcopal played very well in the opening quarter, and the team led 13-5 after the first eight minutes of the game. St. Christopher's was able to find their rhythm in the second quarter, and some foul trouble and defensive lapses plagued the Maroon. Both teams competed in the second period, but EHS maintained the lead at the half, and the visiting Saints trailed 26-17 at the break. The third quarter was Episcopal's best of the game. The Maroon used pressure defense and trapping to speed up the play in the game, and it resulted in a game-high 26 points in the period. EHS held their biggest lead of the game (22 points) before St. Christopher's was able to close the gap just before the fourth quarter. EHS led 49-33 at the end of the third period. All eligible players saw action for the Maroon in the fourth quarter, and each player made a positive contribution on the court. Episcopal defeated the visiting Saints by a score of 63-45, and the team was able to advance to the VISAA quarterfinals.
