Junior Basketball Ends Season With Loss to Flint Hill

The junior basketball team played against Flint Hill in their final game of the season.
The boys started out with great intensity on both sides of the court. Defensively, the Maroon were able to stifle the Flint Hill offense with good pressure and a press that created a few turnovers. On the offensive end, the scoring was spread out, as Jack Hines '21, Jason Gibson '21, and Stern Cohen '21 all contributed a basket. The quarter ended EHS on top 6 to 4.

Both teams found some better offense in the second quarter. For EHS, Hines got hot with some good drives and lay-ups, scoring 6 points. Gibson also contributed, as well as Jackson Bauer '21 with a good drive to the hoop for a bucket. The second quarter ended Episcopal 16 to Flint Hill's 12.

After their best half of the season, the Maroon boys came out a little flat. They were not able to handle Flint Hill's ramped up defense, which forced many turnovers. Flint Hill also was able to penetrate the EHS zone with better success leading to more scoring opportunities for them. The bright spot for Episcopal was the play of Kartik Singh '21 off the bench. He scored a quick 6 points utilizing his height well to get close to the basket. Unfortunately, by the end of the third quarter Flint Hill took the lead 24-22.

In the final quarter of the game, EHS lost steam and continued coming up short on the offensive. The only production of points were from two free throws. Flint Hill continued scoring, especially as they got to the foul line with increased fouling from the Maroon. In the end, EHS was not able to mount a comeback, and the game ended in a loss, 24-36.
