Maroon Basketball Victorious on Senior Night

The boys varsity basketball team had their final regular-season IAC game on Friday evening when they hosted the St. Albans Bulldogs on Ainslie Court.
This was the team's Senior Night, in which all four seniors were recognized before the game: Anderson Glover, Joe Mutscheller, Bryan Peterson and Zach Pfaffenberger have all had a terrific year, and they will be missed! All four seniors started the contest against the Bulldogs, and they were joined by Xavier Johnson '19. Episcopal played a terrific first quarter, and the scoring contributions came from Pfaffenberger, Johnson, Asa Shannon '19, Tymu Chenery '20 and Bryce Steele '21. This balanced attack on offense, along with some tough man-to-man defense, gave the Maroon a 15-10 edge after the first period. In the second quarter, the Maroon had some defensive struggles. St. Albans was able to knock down four three-point shots in the period, and they took command of the game. At the break, the Bulldogs led by a score of 27-26.

The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair with both teams playing well on the defensive end of the floor. Rudy Bissot '19 and Darius Johnson '21 helped the Maroon off the bench when the team faced foul trouble, and Episcopal was able to push ahead on the scoreboard, 41-40, by the end of the third quarter. The first few minutes of the fourth quarter was an even battle between these two teams, but the Maroon began to dig-in defensively when the team switch to their point-zone, and EHS also got red-hot from the perimeter on offense. Xavier Johnson, Darius Johnson, Chenery, and Steele all knocked down three-point shots in the final quarter, and Pfaffenberger and Shannon controlled the defensive glass. EHS controlled the final few minutes of play, and the team defeated St. Albans by a score of 60-50.

Episcopal is now 17-7 overall, and 6-4 in the final IAC regular season standings.
