The climbing team faced league powerhouse The Heights and league newcomers Madeira in a top-rope meet at Sportrock Gym in Sterling, Va.
The girls faced a bit of a challenge against Madeira school in this meet. Despite the fact that the Snails are in their first season in the league, this meet was hosted at their home gym. That gave them a distinct advantage as they knew the routes ahead of time and had practiced them often. Madeira took an early lead with many of their climbers scoring quick 5.10 routes. EHS was resilient, though, and kept fighting for our routes. Jane Owen ’19 and Mei Kuo ’19 each grabbed a 5.11 to add to their score and earned 22 points for first place in the girls’ leaderboard and second place overall. Gracie Guest ’19 and Olivia Tucker ’19 each earned 18, tying two Madeira girls for second place. Arden Faires ’19 earned 12 to round out the varsity scoring. Wardie Cammack ’20 had earned her spot in her first varsity meet of the season, but was the dropped score of 6 to the JV total. The varsity girls earned their win with a score of 92–76.
The JV girls also narrowly beat Madeira 56–52. Because our girls team is so deep, it is quite tough to pick the varsity six for each meet. Juliet Faris ’19 tied her varsity teammates with an impressive 22. Barrett Carney ’19 earned 15 for the JV. Nettie Webb ’18 scored 9. Arabella Dixon ’21 and Arianna Otoo ’21 tied with 4. Bridget McAree ’21 and Forbes Dudley ’21 found the scoresheet with 3 points each.
The boys faced a daunting task as the Heights have been blowing up scores all season. They ended up losing 75–126. Paul Pivirotto ’19 had our top score of 20, tied for ninth place overall and sixth in the boys’ side of the meet. The Heights swept the top five. The following scores came in from our varsity boys:
Kidron Kollin ’19 with 18 points
Thomas Adkins ’20 with 15 points
Collin Fitzpatrick ’19 with 12 points
Bobby Hood ’19 with 10 points
Rob Deaton ’20 had his 7 points dropped from top five varsity scores.
