Junior Basketball Fights Hard, Falls to Bullis

The Maroon junior basketball team competed agains the Bullis Bulldogs.
THe opponent set the tone early. They came out strong off the tip with an immediate layup for two points. EHS struggled to generate offense in the first quarter, outscored by a margin of 2-1. Jack Hines '21 scored two to put Maroon on the scoreboard for the first time. Jason Gibson '21 gobbled up a few offensive and defensive rebounds, and put up a nice layup for two. Jackson Bauer '21 had an excellent driving play for a nice layup toward the end of the first quarter. Bullis led the first quarter by a score of 13-6.

The second quarter proved a similar story. Gibson came alive on offensive, scoring six points for Episcopal. Unfortunately, the Maroon was again outscored by a margin of 2-1, and the Bulldogs led by a score of 28-12 at halftime.

The Maroon kept fighting in the third quarter: Gibson remained a threat offensively, scoring all five of Maroon’s points in the third quarter. The Bulldogs remained formidable, and continued to outscore EHS by a 2-1 margin. Will Sternberg '21 joined the game and put forth a great effort. The Bulldogs were up by a score of 39-17 at the end of the third quarter.
 
The Maroon turned things around in the fourth quarter! The boys played some of their best basketball of the season and outscored the Bulldogs by a score of 14-10. Thomas Gibert '21 kicked the quarter off with a nice jumper and drained a three late in the game. Gibson scored four points. Stern Cohen '21 added three points, and Andrew Caslow '21 scored two points. It was a fantastic finish in spite of the loss, and a moment for the boys to build on as the season moves forward.
