Boys Varsity Basketball Defeats Georgetown Day

The boys varsity basketball team faced Georgetown Day in the IAC/MAC Challenge, hosted by the Maret School in Washington, D.C.
The temperatures in the Northern Virginia and DC Region have been frigid, and that is just how the Maroon shooting was in the first half of the game. EHS struggled mightily to score the ball, and this resulted in a much closer game than it should have been. EHS maintained a lead for most of the first quarter, but the second quarter presented the Maroon with difficulty on the defensive end of the floor as well, which allowed GDS to score twenty points in the period. Episcopal only led by seven points at the half, and the team returned to their cold locker room in D.C. to talk about a game plan for the final 16 minutes of play.

Fortunately for the Maroon fans who were in attendance, Episcopal played much better basketball in the second half. The team pushed the lead to 20 points, and although Georgetown Day continued to play hard and keep the game within reach, the Maroon would not give away their comfortable lead. All thirteen players that dressed for EHS saw action in the game, and it was a good learning experience for the players and the coaches. Episcopal defeated GDS by a final score of 77-59.

The team has an overall record of 10-1 as we enter the first week of I.A.C. play. It will be a busy week for the Maroon as we host St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School on Tuesday; travel to Landon on Friday; and host rival Woodberry Forest on Saturday.
