Maroon Wins First Round of ISL-AA Tournament

The Girls' Varsity Soccer team competed against Georgetown Visitation.
Facing an opponent with a storied tradition of soccer excellence, the visitors had their work cut out for them on a warm fall day. From the opening minutes, both sides settled in to a defensive battle. The first 40 minutes included several close calls for both offensive and defensive units. Both teams were unable to convert their chances in to goals by half time and team discussions definitely focused on building offensive energy.

Visitation pushed forward into the EHS half immediately, as the defense held strong and thwarted all attacks. Goalkeeper Lindy Moss '19 put together spectacular saves with confidence in the air that inspired her teammates. As the match rolled in to the 70th minute, defender Lilly Wilcox '18 won a 50/50 challenge and fed an angled ball to striker Caroline Garrard '20, who beat both the last Visitation defender and goalkeeper to tuck a ball into the net on on the lower left post. The final 10 minutes of this match were breathtaking at times, and the visitors from the High School were able to weather a flurry of attempts on net by Visitation.

EHS found itself pushing on into the next round of the tournament at the final whistle with the only goal of the contest being the game winner.
