Home Loss for Varsity Boys Soccer
Episcopal boys’ varsity soccer fell to a talented and deep Bishop O’Connell side by a score of 4-0 on Hoxton Field on Friday afternoon.
The EHS boys competed valiantly throughout the first forty minutes and trailed only 1-0 at halftime. The EHS back four of Cole Wise ’19, Rudy Bissot Stargardter ’19, Jacob Beckner ’18, and Cam Robinson ’19 limited the Knights to just four shots with two on goal in the half. Episcopal’s best scoring chances came through Herbert Gray ’20, and Meron Tekeste ’19 who both forced saves by the O’Connell keeper.
O’Connell’s quality proved the difference in the second half, as the Knights’ precise crosses from the run of play and long throw-ins caused trouble for the Maroon. Tyler Conklin ’21, who entered the game at halftime, made eight saves, and had no chance on the three O’Connell goals he conceded.
In the end, the defensive organization and commitment by the EHS team in the first half is a sign of positive progress. Episcopal opens conference play on Tuesday versus St. Albans.
