The girls varsity tennis team traveled to Georgetown to take on Georgetown Visitation, and came away with a hard-fought win.
This match was much closer than the final score indicated. The contest began with the the four singles matches. Gracie Hughes '19 led the way with a quick start and finished off her #1 opponent 10-3, as did Lilly Whitner ’19 at #4, who cruised to a 10-2 win. Lily Dolan ’20 and Lilly Schmachtenberger '19 were in much closer battles at #3 and #4 singles, but after enduring a few nervous moments and long games, they bot emerged with wins for a sweep of the singles. The doubles matches were all challenging as well, and at one point all three teams were behind, but with some consistency and fortitude, we came through with wins at #1, and Catherine Clark ’21 winning 10-7, and Sam Fanning ’19 and Eve Mazlish ’21 pulling out an 11-9 win. It was a solid win in the always tough AA ISL league.
The first Virginia State poll has Episcopal at #5, and we are hoping to keep up the good work!
