EHS Wins Big at the Northern Virginia Science Olympiad
Last weekend, the EHS Science Olympiad team competed against 20 other teams at the Northern Virginia Regionals at Fairfax High School. Competing in 19 events across all areas of Science and Engineering, the team competed well and has been invited to participate in the State Tournament in April.
Captains Jack Bai '16 and Joseph Lin '16 continued their winning ways from last year and earned a gold medal in the Scrambler event! This team also earned a bronze at States last year, so despite changed to the event this fall, we are hoping for great success in April in this event as well.
A three-in-one powerhouse was discovered at Regionals, and her name is Leah Joo '16. She medaled in three of the four events in which she competed, including a 6th place medal in Entomolog with Jess Yang '16, 5th place in Chemistry Lab with Amy Lim '17, and a 5th place medal in Air Trajectory with Juhyeong Park '15. Joo and Park created one of the most complex launching instruments on the team, testing and optimizing it for weeks with great determination.
Park also teamed with Maura Kitchens '16 in earning a silver in Green Generation. Special thanks to Kitchens, who along with Priscilla Barton-Metcalfe '16, volunteered their time outside of their afternoon option to participate in Regionals.
The Determination Award goes to Lim and Dylan Michael '16, who finished just out of the medals in Mission Possible, an event which tests Rube-Goldberg machines. Their instrument was a feat of engineering and we are hopeful that they will be able to return to the event next year after all that they learned this winter.
