Cary Longstreth Goodwin '93

Mr. Goodwin was one of the best players on two of the best football teams EHS has ever fielded. He was co-captain of the 1992 team, which answered the undefeated 1991 season by outscoring opponents 302-30 and extending the winning streak to a second season and 19 victories. In his senior year, he set an EHS record for most tackles in a season, was selected All-IAC and All-Metro (1st Team) in football, and was the Alexandria Sportsman’s Club’s Football Player of the Year. A tremendous athlete, Mr. Goodwin was also tri-captain of varsity basketball his junior year and co-captain of varsity lacrosse his senior year. He was selected All-IAC (1st team) and All-State in lacrosse his senior year and awarded the Rinehart Medal for athletic worth and the Alexander Spotswood Award for football team morale.

Mr. Goodwin received a football scholarship from the University of Richmond, where he was the leader of a defense that ranked in the top five in the country and served as co-captain his senior year. He was selected to the All-Conference team. In 1999, the Alexandria Sportsman’s Club named Mr. Goodwin as one of Alexandria’s 100 Greatest Athletes.
