EHS Represents Liechtenstein, Mexico, and Pakistan at Model United Nations

This year, 26 Episcopal students represented Liechtenstein, Mexico, and Pakistan at the Model United Nations, sponsored by Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. Students served on four committees within the mock General Assembly and discussed issues such as reducing sectarian violence in Africa; curbing underground international drug trafficking organizations; the global AIDS epidemic; the need to control international small arms trade; and preserving peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The students came away from the experience with an enhanced understanding of world affairs and the complicated international mechanisms for dealing with them,” said social studies teacher Peter Goodnow, one of the group’s faculty sponsors. “On the lighter side, Episcopal’s Mexican delegates were nominated for the award of ‘best dancing delegation’ at the Model U.N. mixer!” At right:</strong> Members of this year’s Model U.N. team: (front row, left to right) Claire Channell ’09, Maria Cox ’11, Chelsea Jack ’10, Nadia Odai-Afotey ’09, Paige Micklem ’09, Eliza Hadjis ’09, and Martha Cammack ’09; second row: Frances Stone ’09, Michael Rizzoni ’08, Mandy Cashin ’09, Katelyn Halldorson ’09, Claire Battis ’09, and Lucie Tvrznikova ’09; third row: Alex Helm ’09, Vincent Mariano ’10, Jong Min Jeon ’10, Sam Song ’09, and Nick Styles ’10; fourth row: Omar Protzuk ’10, Austin Kim ’09, Peter Kim ’10, and Michael Xu ’10; fifth row: John Henry ’10 and Josh Ashworth ’10.
