Crew Team Wins Races by Open Water

Racing for the second time within 72 hours, the varsity eight (oared boat) rowed against the Gunston School in Centreville, Maryland. The original race was cancelled due to high winds, but the team experienced perfect water conditions during the rematch.

Instead of having one single race, the coaches decided to shorten the race distance to 1000 meters (from the normal 1500 meters), but have the crews race four times. During all four races, Episcopal controlled the Gunston squad from the first stroke, and were victorious in each race. EHS was able to win three races by open water (more than a boat length).

After a long erg workout on Monday, the team continued their success from the weekend regatta by rowing a consistent, controlled stroke rate. The team is learning how to pull very hard at these lower ratings, which bodes well for boat speed when base ratings increase during the last month of the season.
