EHS improved to 3-0 in Virgina State play with a solid victory over Potomac School on Tuesday. A low-scoring affair in the first quarter, Potomac was tough at the face-off X early in the game and earned some extra possession, but the EHS defense forced long range shots and turned turnovers into transition goals. Matt Barendsen '18 (3g, 0a) knotted the score at 2 with a last second effort as time expired. 2-2 after one-quarter. EHS defense played two shutout quarters, which allowed the Maroon to build a four-goal cushion heading into the final frame--6-2. To their credit, Potomac fought back with tough play at the faceoff-X and some sharp outside shooting. Potomac cut the lead to just two early in the 4th quarter, and momentum seemed to be heading in their favor until Sophomore Jack Kelly '20 (1g, 1a) scored the goal of the game off of a face-off scramble. Jack scooped the ball in traffic and used his speed to dart 30 yards towards the cage, splitting the Potomac D, sacrificing his body, and sticking a hard shot into the back of the net. From the EHS played ball control offense and scored two more late in the game to seal a 9-4 home win.
