Georgetown Prep Beats Boys Junior Team by a Hair

The junior boys looked to take the momentum of good play and improvement into their Friday afternoon home game against Prep. Once again, the boys were looking to improve on their first meeting with the little Hoyas. They did just that and more. The physically taller and bigger Prep was looking to once again bowl over the Maroon. However, what they found in store was nothing of the like. The team came out aggressively playing defense. They started pressing hard and were disciplined in their 2-3 zone defense. The High School was able to limit Prep to a few good shots and limited scoring opportunities. Offensively, the boys were able to handle the different defenses (almost every one in the book) that Prep threw at them. Jared Andreala '20 started off the scoring and Finlay MacKnight '20 added with a big three point basket. The Maroon led Pred after the first quarter 9-8. With a little belief that they could compete with these big boys, the Maroon got into a rhythm. Ransdell McCauley '20 took over the second quarter with 6 points as the little Hoyas began to step their game up. The half ended tied 19 all. The second half proved to be a back and forth battle, each time retaking the lead. The junior boys were able to distribute the ball very well and many players contributed to the scoring in the third. The quarter ended with Prep up 1 point. In the fourth, the two teams again fought hard going back and forth. The Maroon were not abel to convert on a few short jumpers and put backs, including a few free throws, where as Prep made a big three and hit all of their free throws. With a few seconds left, the boys were down 3, but were not able to get a good shot off to tie the game. Again, the boys proved they can play with anybody, even the team that beat them 13-36 the first time; huge improvement!
