Choir Sings in Unison with Episcopal Schools at National Cathedral Service
On Sunday, February 12, the EHS choir joined singers from nine other Episcopal Schools in the region to sing a service of Choral Evensong at the National Cathedral.
This annual event is organized by the Mid-Atlantic Episcopal Schools Association (MAESA). Nearly 300 singers gathered in the nave of the National Cathedral that afternoon for a rehearsal under the direction of Cathedral music director Michael McCarthy and Cathedral Organist Benjamin Straley. After rehearsal and a short break, the singers returned to the Cathedral for the 4:00 p.m. service of Choral Evensong.
Some of the other schools that participated were St. Alban's, National Cathedral School, St. James School, St. Andrew's School, St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School, and Christ Church School.
This event afforded EHS students the opportunity not only to connect with singers from all over the region, but to experience the architecture and beauty of the National Cathedral. One of the great challenges and lessons of the day was learning how to navigate the live acoustics created by the Cathedral’s cavernous architecture.
