The JV boys traveled up to Bethesda to take on the Little Hoyas of Georgetown Prep. Prep always has a strong team, and this year is no exception. From the opening tip, the Hoyas displayed discipline on offense and toughness on defense, but, initially, the Maroon were able to match the Hoyas’ focus and energy. In the first quarter, Asa Shannon '19 fought his way to the hoop for some early buckets, and Tristan Bounds '20 controlled the paint on offense and defense to keep the game close. Georgetown executed their offense with patience and precision and gradually created a small lead. But EHS continued to fight. Dave Rondeau '20 and Shannon repeatedly slashed to the bucket and Jack Moore '20 knocked down a 3-pointer late in the second quarter to keep the Maroon close. At the half, Prep maintained a slight edge over EHS, 31-24, but the Maroon felt good about their first half of play.
The second half began with a flurry of scoring—first by EHS and then by Prep. With a quick 3-pointer by Jett Lyerly '19 and buckets from Bounds and Shannon, the game was suddenly tied 31-31, and the Maroon looked like they were going to make the game interesting. Unfortunately, though, Prep checked the EHS momentum, re-grouped, and then surged back on offense just as quickly. The Hoyas hit two 3-pointers and two transition layups to take a ten-point lead with two minutes remaining in the third quarter, and it was a lead that they would hold through the rest of the game. Although the Maroon challenged the Hoyas at times in the fourth quarter, they simply couldn’t stop Prep’s offense consistently enough make a dent in the deficit.
With the loss, the JV boys are 4-5 on the season and 2-1 in the conference.
