Varsity Field Hockey Falls to Saints 5-1

Seminary Hill Cup game goes to SSSAS, but the Cup remained on the Hill!
This Friday, the Maroon took on St. Stephens & St. Agnes for the Seminary Hill Cup. The game started out with great defense from players LB Campagna '17, Mary Ives Giblin '19, Eleanor Winants '18 and Sarah Kurzweil '17 as the Saints had pressure early on.

Winants had great hits from out of the back and was able to see Erin Philips '18 and Janie Stillwell '18 in the gaps. While the Maroon was doing great on defense they had difficulties transferring the ball from the midfield to the forward line. EHS would have a hard time creating scoring opportunities and would only have one corner in the first half.

Ten minutes into the half, the Saints would score the first goal of the game. The half would end 2-0, with the Saints on top. With adjustments made from the first half, Maroon would score within the first four minutes with a hard fought goal from Camden Alford. The Midfield line, including Jonesy Wilbanks '19, Isabelle Davidson '18, and Stillwell, worked extremely hard between both ends to follow the play.

The Maroon now within one and the ability to take control of the game. Forwards Bijee Jackson '18, Aly Cowin '18, Jahsaiah Moses '19, and Jane Hill '20 fought to receive the ball and create some attacking opportunities for Maroon. The Saints had a fast break goal and would score minutes after Maroon.

Despite the tough goals against, goalie Camille Ciolino '17 made some awesome saves to keep the Maroon in the game. EHS played with exceptional heart the entire half and although the Saints were able to score two more goals that half, the team never gave up. Nettie Webb '18 had one last opportunity off of a big ball from the back, but the Maroon was unable to convert the opportunity to a goal.

Final score: 5-1. EHS agreed that this was a learning game, one they could grow from and with simple adjustments; they would be ready for the next game.
