EHS Loses to ISL A-Division Champion Maret

Though undefeated in division play entering Tuesday’s game, the Episcopal’s girls varsity girls soccer team lost 4-0 to Maret.

With the win, the Frogs (9-1) clinched the ISL A-division title. Despite the cold, rainy conditions and the lopsided score, Episcopal battled to the final few minutes, showing the grit and teamwork that have been their hallmark all year. Maret scored its first three goals in the initial 35 minutes of the game, but the Maroon defense stiffened and kept the Frogs off the board for half an hour. The Frogs got only five shots on goal in the second half after putting 11 on net in the first half.

Goalkeeper Vika Vingireviciute ’21 was again outstanding, recording 12 saves. Second-half backline stalwarts included Neely Holt ’20, Lillian Jester ’21, Millie Pettegrew ’20.

The game was senior day for the team’s seven seniors: Katherine Allen, Allison Duenas, Caroline Garrard, Holt, Cecilia Moore, Pettegrew, and Lindsey Veatch.

The Maroon (6-5-1; 2-1-1 in divisional play) goes up against another division foe, Holy Child, on Thursday at home on Bryant Field. Kickoff is at 4:15 p.m.
