Maroon Beats Maret 40-0

The varsity football team hosted the Frogs of Maret for its first home game on Friday.
The Maret offense started off strong and ate up the first 8 minutes of the game on a long sustained drive that ultimately produced no points due to a tough defensive stand.

The Maroon offense was balanced passing for a total of 141 yards and rushing for 145 yards. Emmett Morehead ’21 had a steady game at QB completing 6 of 8 passes for 141 yards, and two touchdowns. Juanell Walker ’19 rushed for 55 yards on 8 attempts, including a 13-yard touchdown. Bear Matheson ’20 ran the ball hard and scored a touchdown from 3 yards out. Henry Sergenian ’19 and Ethan Yip ’20 each caught one touchdown pass.

The Maroon Defense was led by Jeff Stallings '20 who found his way into the backfield multiple times with 8 total tackles, including numerous quarterback pressures. The secondary and line backing core was solid by holding the Maret offense scoreless. Elijah Gaines '20 had two interceptions returning one for a touchdown with 13 seconds left in first half.

The game went to running clock by half time as EHS took a 40-0 lead in the second quarter. Jett Lyerly '19 took over the quarterback duties and ran the offense to near perfection: He ran behind the ball for 55 yards on 8 attempts. It was a solid season home opener as everyone on the 59 -an roster saw meaningful playing time.
