Coxswain Arden Faires ‘19 and rowers Reid Jamieson ‘20, Sidney Lewis ‘19, Juliet Faris ‘19, and Gray Shiverick ‘19 were pitted against teams that placed well at the Stotesbury Regatta, plus two crews from Florida in their heat on Friday. With the top three crews advancing to the semifinals, EHS rowed a steady first 1000 meters and decided against sprinting as they had the third position locked up.

In the semifinals, the focal points of the race plan included aggressively getting off the starting platform and raising the stroke rating from the midway point of the race to the finish line. The tailwind made for some fast conditions and sub-six-minute times were inevitable. At the 750-meter mark, the lead three crews had an open-water (more than one boat length) margin over Episcopal and the crews from New Trier and Shaker Heights (both from Ohio). As the crews approached the final 500 meters, Episcopal was positioned last—but they were just beginning to unleash their fastest sprint of the season.

At the finish line, Episcopal had rowed through two Ohio crews and placed 4th—one qualifying position away from making the grand final. The junior four recorded the fastest time of any crew not progressing to the grand finals. In addition, EHS was able to narrow the gap with the eventual winner, Oakton High School (Virginia), from 23 seconds at States to under 10 seconds. In the end, the Maroon placed 7th in the country.
