Boys Varsity LAX Falls to Paul VI in Overtime of VISAA Semifinals
The boys varsity lacrosse team lost in the semifinals to eventual VISAA Champion Paul VI by a final score of 13-12 in overtime.
The boys played with outstanding heart and effort throughout the game. The Maroon started quickly as goals by Will Cory '19, Thomas Williamson '19, Matt Berendsen '18, and Ricky Miezan '18 allowed EHS to open up a 4-2 lead. PVI would respond by scoring the next five goals of the game opening a 7-4 lead. Miezan and Cory added their second goals of the game to close the gap to 7-6 at the half.
The Maroon took an 8-7 lead on Miezan's third goal of the game, and the teams traded goals for the remainder of the game with the pattern of EHS taking a one goal lead and PVI responding to tie the game. PVI scored with 46 seconds left to tie the game in regulation and with 1:36 left in overtime for the win.
Miles Thompson '18 made 11 strong saves in the cage and Jack Niven '18, Coleman Marlatt '19, Michael Grogan '19, Christian Storch '20, Jack Kelly '19, Tyler Bryan '20, Jack Lee '20, and Ben Lee '20 all contributed on the defensive end of the field.
John McKee '20 and Chad Calderwood '20 were outstanding at the face-off X.
Overall, the Maroon finished the season with an 11-8 record, #4 VISAA ranking and their first VISAA semifinal appearance since 2011.
