Bullis Beats JV Tennis

Co-Captain Alex Keller '19 fled introductions and line-ups as the match included four singles lines and three doubles lines in a pro-set format (eight-game pro-set for all lines). The singles lines included Thomas Dudley '21 in Singles 1, Whit Nuckolls '21 in Singles 2, Luke Cowan '21 in Singles 3, and Edward Powers '21 in Singles 4. The doubles lines included Charles Starks '21 paired with Alex Stettinius '21 in Doubles 1, Keller paired with Killian Vetter '20 in Doubles 2, and Captain Ben Korkowski '19 paired with Co-Captain Jerry Chen '19 in Doubles 3. EHS lost 2-5 overall against Bullis, which included wins in the Singles 1 and Doubles 3 lines, and a tight loss in the Doubles 1 line (9-7 loss). The Doubles 1 line drew a large crowd from both teams with an exciting see-saw battle as Charles and Alex fought hard. Starks varied shot types, and changed patterns incorporating well-timed lobs to throw opponents off their rhythm.

Dudley won the Singles 1 line as he exploited his opponent’s weaknesses with deep high-bouncing shots. Korkowski and Chen used there consistency to their advantage to overcome their opponents to win Doubles line 3. Powers had a competitive Singles 4 match as he adjusted with low line-drives to neutralize his opponent coming to net. The EHS JV tennis team played well against Bullis overall by demonstrating good shot consistency, thereby lowering unforced errors to force opponents to earn their wins.
