The girls varsity softball team lost to Flint Hill on Thursday in three innings.
The final score was 1-16. Flora French ’21 was on the mound and faced 27 batters. She struck out one, walked 7, and allowed 5 hits. This was French's first full game pitched at the high school level. The Flint Hill team had a good line up of hitters and managed to string together five hits. We had several solid defensive plays, including critical outfield catches by Judy Liu ’18 and Lilly Wilcox ’18, nice heads up plays on grounders by Nicole Carino ’19, French, and Halsey Ziglar ’19. The Maroon's offense was strong from the beginning and they did a good job putting the bat on the ball against Flint Hill’s tough pitcher. Carino was 2-2 in the game. She started us off with a hard infield hit to get on base, and then scored our only run. Madi Register ’18 reached first on an error on her hard-hit ball to short stop. She got caught in a rundown later in the inning between third base and home. Ziglar also got on base with a single, but was unable to score. Barrett Carney ’19, Liu and Wilcox each hit the ball hard, but couldn’t get it through Flint Hill’s defense.
