JV Tennis Falls to Landon in Close Game
EHS fought hard at Landon against their opponents and against strong winds, but EHS came up short losing 4-3.
Captain Ben Korkowski ’19 lead introductions and line-ups as the match included our singles lines and three doubles lines. The singles lines included Thomas Dudley ’21 in Singles 1, Luke Cowan ’20 in Singles 2, Whit Nuckolls ’21 in Singles 3, and Edward Powers ’21 in Singles 4. The doubles lines included Co-Captain Alex Keller '19 paired with Killian Vetter ’20 in Doubles 1, Charles Starks ’21 paired with Alex Stettinius ’21 in Doubles 2, and Ben paired with Co-Captain Jerry Chen ’19 in Doubles 3.
Dudley won Singles 1 with solid ground strokes and aggressive net-play with short balls. Nuckolls won Singles 3 with consistent baseline rallies in an exciting match (Whit won 9-7 in the Singles 3 line). Korkowski and Chen won Doubles 3 with consistency and angled volleys. Powers had an epic battle in Singles 4, strategically hitting to the open court, and eventually forcing a tie-break. Landon was able to endure and win the Singles 4 tie-break (9-8 for the Singles 4 line), which secured Landon winning the overall team match 4-3.
