Softball Faces Tough Loss Against NCS

The girls varsity softball team faced a tough loss on Thursday against the National Cathedral School. We were missing 3 of our outfielders, and we had an injured short stop. Luckily our backups were ready for the challenge. Flora French ’21, Melanie Hoffmann ’18 and Sofi Sowden ’20 were in the outfield for us and Nicole Carino ’19 filled in at shortstop. Tiffany Stowers ’20 had 13 strikeouts and allowed four hits—two of which were bunts. NCS took advantage of a few errors on the defense, putting together hits to consistently score runs in every inning but the 5th. Episcopal's offense had a hard time putting the bat on the ball early on and we had several strike outs throughout the line-up. Once they did start hitting, the hits seemed to go directly toward the competition. Halsey Ziglar ’19 managed to find a hole in their defense early in the game. Unfortunately, the Maroon were unable to score her before the inning was over. Things were looking up in the 7th inning when Madi Register ’19 smacked a line drive to the outfield. She was on base when Stowers rocked her second home run of the season over the right fielder’s head. Register and Stowers would be the only runs scored for us in the game, leaving the score at 2-9 at the end of the seventh.
