Softball Team Beats Bullis

The girls varsity softball team picked up another win on Friday for Parents Weekend against Bullis. Our bats were alive early in the game and we managed to score first, putting two runs on the board in the first inning. Bullis fought back with several hits and aggressive base running on our only two defensive errors in the game and a few pass balls, ultimately scoring four runs by the middle of the game. We were stuck with the score at 2-4 for several innings, until an amazing comeback by our offense in the 6th inning when we put together seven solid hits and scored six runs. We went through the entire line up that inning with no strike outs.

The 7th inning comeback all started with a single by Barrett Carney '19 who went 2-2 in the inning, followed by another single by Halsey Ziglar ’19 that moved Carney to second. Flora French ’21 came up with an RBI single to score Carney and move Ziglar to second. Sofi Sowden ’20 got on base with a walk which loaded the bases for Lilly Wilcox ’18, who hit an RBI single to score Sowden. Bases were loaded again with Tiffany Stowers ’20 at the plate, who rocked a double to left field to clear the bases, scoring three runs. The girls managed to prevent Bullis from scoring any more runs in the 7th inning, thanks to Stowers striking out two batters early in the inning and a great heads-up catch on a foul ball by Ziglar to end the game.

The offense had a total of SEven RBIs for the game, one each by Wilcox and French, two by Madi Register ’18 and three by Stowers. Nicole Carino ’19, Carney, French, Sowden, Stowers, and Ziglar each scored one run, and Wilcox scored two. Stowers racked up a total of 14 strikeouts on Friday. She did an amazing job keeping runners off the bases, and us in the game, until we could get our bats going again in the 6th. The final score of the game was 8-4.
