The boys JV tennis team took their game on the road against Collegiate.
Co-Captain Alex Keller '19 lead team introductions and line-ups as Collegiate elected the college format of six singles and three doubles lines. Collegiate had so many players that they also encouraged six exhibition matches (15 matches in total), which we obliged as all EHS players completed two matches per player.
The singles lines included Charles Starks ’21 in Singles 1, Thomas Dudley '21 in Singles 2, Edward Powers ’21 in Singles 3, Whit Nuckolls ’21 in Singles 4, Luke Cowan ’20 in Singles 5, Alex Stettinius ’21 in Singles 6, Co-Captain Jerry Chen ’19 in Singles 7, Captain Ben Korkowski ’19 in Singles 8, Keller in Singles 9, and Killian Vetter ’20 in Singles 10.The doubles lines included Keller paired with Vetter in Doubles 1, Korkowski paired with Chen in Doubles 2, Nuckolls paired with Cowan in Doubles 3, Starks paired with Powers in Doubles 4, and Thomas Dudley '21 paired with Stettinius in Doubles 5.
The boys fought hard even though losing 1-8 for the main draw, and winning 5-1 in the exhibition draw. The main draw included Dudley to win Singles 2, as his determination was too much for his strong opponent.Other notable performances included Cowan in Singles 5, which had a strong showing, and in some instances battling the wind on several key points.Starks had an excellent showing in Singles 1, and earned being up early in the pro-set (3-2) with well-constructed points and put-away overheads or volleys at net.The doubles matches had strong showings by Keller paired with Vetter in Doubles 1, and Nuckolls paired with Cowan in Doubles 3. EHS won 5 of 6 exhibition matches, including singles wins by Keller, Vetter, and Korkowski, and doubles wins by Starks paired with Powers, and Dudley paired with Stettinius.
