Boys Varsity Basketball Finishes 2-1 at the Bullis Tournament
After “shuffling the deck” with the opponents on the final day of the tournament, Episcopal was ready to face Good Counsel from the W.C.A.C.
It is never easy to know how a team will bounce-back from two intense days of basketball, a tough loss the day before, and a week of exams, so the coaches were excited to see if the players had the grit and resilience to play with effort, energy and enthusiasm on Day 3 of the tournament. The first few possessions of the game did not go well for the Maroon, two turnovers and two missed layups, but the team finally settled in to the game. The first quarter was solid, EHS led 21-12, but it was the second quarter when the Maroon took control and showed not only their ability, but their desire to play well. The team held Good Counsel to just six points in the second quarter, and Episcopal exploded for a game high 24 points in the period. At the break the team held a comfortable lead of 45-18.
The third quarter was more of the same from the Maroon defense, and the team had eleven players rotate through as they played both man and zone. Good Counsel was only able to put three points on the board in the period, and the Maroon once again extended the lead. EHS was able to use several different lineups in the fourth quarter, and all thirteen players in uniform saw action in the period. This did cause some issues with the defensive communication which allowed Good Counsel to close the gap in the final eight minutes of the game. It was a great learning experience for many of the players off the bench, and the team was all smiles as the game ended, and winter break began! EHS won the game by a final score of 69-38.
