Boys Varsity BBall Defeats Flint Hill, Now 5-0

The boys’ varsity basketball team improved to 5-0 after defeating the Flint Hill School on Thursday evening. This was the first home game for the Maroon this season, and it certainly provided some excitement to the EHS students, faculty and fans.
The first half was a fast paced affair with both teams capitalizing on their transition offense. Zach Pfaffenberger ‘18 went toe-to-toe with Flint Hill’s 6’10 center, and both big men scored 6 points apiece in the second quarter. Tymu Chenery '20 had a big first half with 10 points, and Asa Shannon '19, Xavier Johnson '19 and Darius Johnson '21 also contributed points to help the Maroon build a first half lead. Rudy Bissot '19 and Bryan Peterson' 18 played some good minutes for the Maroon off the bench. EHS led at the break by a score of 33-29.

The third quarter was a struggle for the Maroon, and the visiting Huskies took control of the game. Bryce Steele '21 gave the Maroon some life with a pretty fall away jump shot that fell through the net, but the team only managed one other field goal make in the period. Flint Hill led after three quarters by a score of 43-40.

EHS began the fourth quarter well, but Shannon picked up his fifth foul only a minute into the final period. EHS played part of the quarter with a “small” lineup, but the team also had great a strong effort on the defensive end from Tristan Bounds '20 who stepped in to help defend the Huskies’ talented post player. EHS played with terrific energy and effort in the final quarter, and Johnson exploded for fifteen of his game-high 25 points in the period. EHS was 10-10 from the free-throw line down the stretch, and the team secured their fifth straight win of the season with a 59-52 victory over Flint Hill.
