The Maroon faced Georgetown Day School in a top-rope meet. The walls at Sterling are about 15 feet higher than the walls at our Alexandria home gym, and this extra distance really hurt our team. We could not quite finish the level of route we hoped to score and had to drop down in difficulty for fewer points.
The girls' varsity lost by 5 points to GDS, due in no small part to a coaching decision to mix up the varsity line-up. We left Jane Owen '19 on the proverbial bench, but she was our top girl climber and the seventh best climber of the meet, boys and girls included. She scored 22 points of 5.10 and 5.11 climbs. We will not make that mistake again. Page Light '17 (17 points), Gracie Guest '19, Mei Kuo '19, Juliet Faris '19 (12 points each), and Olivia Tucker '19 scored our varsity a total of 63 points. Of note, Wardie Cammack '20 also scored 12 points off two 5.9's for a good day on the JV roster.
The boys' varsity had a very rough day, losing 94 - 134 to the Grasshoppers. Caelen Wang '17 had a strong outing with 25 points off of 5.11 and 5.11- climbs for 25 points and 4th place overall. Our remaining varsity boys came through with Paul Pivirotto '17 (20 points), Jerry Kuo '17, Kidron Kollin '19 (18 points), and Jack Light '19 (13 points). The boys would rebound this week, however.
