With a total of 21 shots on goal and 12 goalie saves, it is evident that Gardener McGuire '19 and defensive player and captain Pierson Gammage '20 weathered a fierce offensive storm of St. Catherine players for the majority of the game.
There were over 14 offensive corners for St. Catherine's to wear down our defense. A special recognition to Bea Campagna '20, Lindsey Veatch '20, Missy Brandt '20 willing to fearlessly fly out on these corners with certainly powerfully executed shots.
Sofia Podjenski '20, Jane Durden '20, Reid Dixon '20, McKenna Gribbon '19, all worked into the defensive line to try to hold back St. Catherine's. Players were rotated liberally thanks to Virginia Lummis '20, Veatch, and Yareni Murillo '20 for continuing to learn the game and holding her own in play and Doris Li '18 for her willingness to play a forward position.
The field the position structure was redesigned to create heavier coverage and less offensive strength. A score of 0-2 at the half was a tremendous effort and by the second half we did not have the stamina and depth to continue to defend and that is when the scoring occurred most but a strong finish at the very end where they dug deep to finish strong.
I was incredibly proud of the four offensive transitions created and the teams support of each other on and off the field and being gracious in defeat. We were surrounded by love and support from our Richmond fans which made all the difference!
