The girls varsity soccer team squared off against non-divisional ISL foe Holton-Arms on Coxe Field to kick off a series of five consecutive home games.
Senior Lindsey Harrison '19 set the tone on offense early, just narrowly missing a shot on goal in the first minute of play. Despite a total of nine shots in the first half, the Maroon continued to struggle to find the back of the net throughout the period. It wasn't until four minutes into the second half that Logan Tyler '19 connected with Harrison on a through ball into Episcopal's offensive third that the hosts broke onto the scoreboard. The play was a near replica of Harrison's early opportunity and a tribute to the senior captain's perseverance as she notched the first goal of the game.
Despite controlling the majority of play throughout the next twenty minutes, the Maroon backfield continued to face pressure from a Panthers side pushing for the equalizer. A defensive effort featuring Neely Holt '20, Trudy Holmes '19, Alli Boehm '20, Noe Boggan '21, and Isabel Schneider '21 were all calm under pressure, holding the visitors scoreless and building an attack from the back. It wasn't until the 71st minute that the Maroon were truly able to pull ahead as junior Claire Boehm '20 rattled off a hat-trick in the last ten minutes of the game, scoring at the 71st, 76th, and 79th minutes. The junior first powered her way through traffic to slip a ball past Holton's goalkeeper on the near side, then capitalized on well-placed assists from Katherine Allen '20 and Kyara McDowell '19 to give EHS a commanding 4-0 lead.
The Maroon outshot its opponents 21-11, with a total of 12 shots on goal for the Maroon. Lucy Schmachtenberger '21 and Caroline Garrard '20 again paced offensive efforts in looking to connect with teammates going forward while Ruby Gregg '21 played smart soccer on both sides of the ball in the midfield and Millie Pettegrew '20 played some of her best soccer of the year as she set the tone in the midfield by winning 50/50 balls and working to distribute thoughtfully. Lindy Moss '19 recorded six saves in goal for the win.
