Varsity Football Now 4-0 After Friday Night Lights Win

The Maroon varsity football team hosted a very talented cross town rival St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes during the annual Friday Night Lights in Hummel Bowl. The lights, the crowd, and a heated game made for an exciting matchup.
For the second game in a row, the Maroon defense held its opponent to negative rushing yards. St. Stephen’s came into the game 4-1 and it was clear that they were ready to play at EHS. Both team’s offenses struggled to get much going in the first half. While the Maroon offense scored 21 points in the second half, the Saints' offense struggled to get traction against a very tough Maroon defense. The EHS defense was led by Linebacker John Boyles ’20, Max Meyer ’20, and Jeff Stallings ’20.

The Maroon offense was balanced - rushing for 177 yards, and passing for 127 yards. Juanell Walker ‘19 had another outstanding night rushing the ball 30 time for 169 yards and 1 touchdown. Emmett Morehead ’21 threw the ball 14 times for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns. Barry Curtis ’19 had three key catches, including a touchdown. Ethan Yip ’21 had another solid game and was able to secure a 29-yard touchdown pass. Kicker Paul Pivirotto ’19 was perfect on extra points, and helped the Maroon squad win the field position battle with some excellent punts and kickoffs.
