Girls Track & Field Perform Well at Hoxton Invitational

The Hoxton Invitational is one of the final meets of the season and a chance for student-athletes to put all of their hard work to the test.
The Hoxton Invitational has long been regarded as a competition that some of the top Private schools in Northern Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia come to fine tune their Championship form. This year the coaches were please to see that girls squad came ready to not disappoint those who packed Flippin Fieldhouse that afternoon.

Nina Moore ‘20 was first out of the blocks in a  season best time in the 55-meters placing her 3rd in the event just off the pace of the defending State Champion from Paul VI school. Bijee Jackson '18 had that look of determination over the hurdles to take 1st place in the 55-meter hurdle event in a new personal best time, which puts her as the #1 seed going into the State Finals. Jackson was followed closely by training partner Brianna Williams '18, who ran a season’s best for 3rd place in the final.

The girls 4 x 800-meter team was the next big race on the track for the Maroon and they came away with another top performance putting them on pace to be one of the first All-State finishing 4 x 800-meter teams for Episcopal. 
Claire Boehm '20 led off the team perfectly with a personal best time. A newcomer to the distance, Dawn Farquharson '18 had another breakthrough performance as well. Paige Hathaway '18 put up her all-time personal best indoors, setting up Taylor Redd '18 to bring home the baton in 2nd place overall. Other notable personal best performances were Natalie Block '19 who ran a personal best time as well over 3 laps on Cathcart Track; on the distance squad, Olivia Armfield '20 ran a new personal best time in the 500-event; and Esther Kim '19 made her debut in the 1600-meter race and qualified for the State Championships this weekend.

Multi-event specialist Williams put in another strong effort for the Maroon, putting up scoring performances in the long jump, high jump and 55-meter hurdle events. Sydney Lewis '19 also scored valuable team points and a personal best in the shot put event.

The girls 4x200-meter relay took the top spot for the day running to 1st place in the event and putting them firmly in the running for the State title. Jackson, Moore, Jahsaiah Moses '19, and freshman sensation Regan Simmons '21 combined for one of the top performances of the meet. Simmons would also come back and join the 4x400-meter relay team of Moses, Hathaway and Boehm to run a season best time.
