Maroon Falls to Woodberry Forest

The boys varsity basketball team had a quick turnaround as they took on longtime rival Woodberry Forest on Saturday afternoon.
There was great energy in Centennial Gymnasium, but the home team came out flat and missed several early jump-shots. The Tigers played very well early in the game, and they jumped out to a 9-0 lead before EHS was forced to call a timeout. Woodberry continued their dominance in the first quarter, and they led 15-7 at the end of the period. EHS faced foul trouble once again in the second quarter, and with three starters on the bench the Maroon made a strong run of their own in the final few minutes of the half. EHS briefly took a one-point lead, but an offensive rebound and put back just before the buzzer gave the Tigers a 27-26 lead at the intermission.

The second half was a disappointing one for the Maroon: Shots wouldn't fall, and our offensive woes led to some defensive breakdowns. Woodberry was able to play very consistent basketball in the second half, and they executed their game plan to perfection. The Tigers' packed-in 2-3 zone gave EHS some trouble, and this led to a season-low in points scored by the home team. Woodberry was able to secure the victory with some steady play and hot-shooting late in the game, and the Maroon fell to the Tigers by a final score of 52-42. This loss dropped Episcopal's record to 12-2 on the season.
