Absent a few members unavailable due to injuries, and others recently returning to practice and competitive squash, the girls varsity squash team traveled to Baltimore on a sunny fall afternoon to play Roland Park. Last season, they were our toughest opponents as EHS prevailed twice albeit rather narrowly.
Most of the EHS players were familiar with their opponents but still played hard to ensure this 8-1 victory (10-1 overall, including two exhibition matches). Janie Stillwell '18 played with a supportive splint on her right thumb and quickly adjusted after the first game to win 3-0. While there were a few 3-1 matches played at the top of the order, most others coasted to relatively easy 3-0 wins. Trudy Holmes ’19 had a tough opponent and played very well, before ultimately falling to her opponent after four competitive games. For Lilly Whitner '19, Holmes, and Colby Grover ’19, this was the first experience playing squash at the varsity level.
All in all, it was an impressive performance in the season opener for the girls’ varsity squash team.
