Episcopal offers the best of both professional worlds, a tight-knit and inclusive community where over 90% of faculty and 100% of students live together 24/7 on campus, nestled in historic Alexandria, Virginia, and less than eight miles from the heart of the nation's capital of Washington, D.C. 

At Episcopal High School class sizes are small, typically 10 to 12 students, allowing teachers to actively involve students in discussions, draw out their thoughts, and focus on special areas of interest or need. EHS faculty members usually teach four sections, or a total of 40 to 50 students at any given time. They have time to get to know each student's special gifts and needs and provide extra support or opportunities as warranted. Faculty members interact with students in a number of different roles. They are not only teachers, but are also coaches, advisors, and members of a dorm team. All provide mentoring relationships and support for students.

  • Assistant Chaplain

    Episcopal High School seeks candidates for the position of chaplain for the 2019–2020 school year.
    The mission of Episcopal High School is “to prepare young people to become discerning individuals with the intellectual and moral courage to lead principled lives of leadership and service to others.” The assistant chaplain’s primary responsibility, as a member of the chaplain team, is to enrich the spiritual life of the community through planning and participation in school chapel services, teaching theology classes, and providing pastoral care to members of the school community. In addition, the chaplain identifies and promotes the school’s service learning efforts—both weekly service opportunities and service trips.

    Other attendant responsibilities of full-time faculty in a boarding school environment, such as dorm duty and coaching/afternoon activity involvement, apply.

    Qualified candidates will have ordination or planned ordination in the Episcopal Church, hold a master’s degree in divinity, and have 3 to 5 years of experience as a school chaplain or teacher.

    References should speak to the candidate’s capacity and eagerness to work creatively and effectively in a boarding school environment. The salary offered will include a full benefits package and will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

    Episcopal High School is seeking a Director of Campus Safety and Security to provide for the security and protection of all students, faculty, staff, families, facilities and property of Episcopal High School.

    POSITION OVERVIEW
    This person is responsible for developing programs and providing services which will promote, and are responsive in, maintaining a safe environment for all members of the EHS community. The Director of Campus Safety & Security supports a safe educational and residential community by coordinating an integrated and responsive safety and security operations program. A key role is to provide emergency preparedness and response.

    Key duties and responsibilities include:
    • Responsible for hiring, developing, training and management of all Campus Security Officers while ensuring they are performing at the highest level
    • Evaluating the School’s security and safety programs on a continuing basis and recommend/implement changes to them as necessary
    • Responsible for all fire, life, and emergency control systems and inspections making sure that they function at the highest level
    • Manage CCTV, card access, alarm, emergency phones, and all related security systems/equipment
    • Acting as a liaison with local public safety authorities to ensure that the School has a strong working relationship with them
    • Responsible for investigating, reporting and following-up investigations of either civil or criminal nature, at the direction of School Administration
    • Assisting in the ongoing development and implementation of the School’s Emergency Response Plan
    • Working with administrators, faculty, staff and students to ensure that proper security and safety measures are implemented
    • Working closely with the Business Office to manage the School’s risk from a property and casualty insurance perspective
    • Maintaining information on best practices relative to school security and safety
    • Preparing and administering the department budget
    • Administering and effecting changes to all physical security, access control, and campus camera systems.
    • Event management
    • On call for all campus emergencies and respond to all emergencies and suspicious activities on campus taking appropriate action
    • Perform multiple inspections of campus property and facilities on a daily basis

    This list is representative of those duties and responsibilities that are required of the position.  However, the list is not to be considered as all inclusive. A supervisor may assign other duties to meet program requirements of the school.


    The successful candidate will possess:
    • Experience working in law enforcement.
    • Experience with emergency planning and incident management, to include familiarity with the Incident Command System.
    • Demonstrated knowledge in critical incident response and current technology and communication systems.
    • Ability to multitask and work in a high pressure and fast paced environment.
    • A relevant bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of experience and training with 3-5 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a campus environment
    • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills, including the ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
    • A high proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite software
    • Experience managing projects, schedules, budgets and resources.
    • A familiarity with computerized management systems
    • Excellent interpersonal relationship and community-building skills.
    • Ability to use discretion and good judgment in a variety of circumstances with proven ability to effectively, continuously and discretely work with confidential and potentially sensitive information.
    Other Qualifications:
    • A valid driver’s license.
    • All prospective employees must be able to clear a background check, state and federal clearances and TB screening.
     
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    Work is performed inside and outside the building with exposure to inclement weather and unpredictable crisis situations and candidate must be flexible with working hours and working conditions, including:
    • Ability to walk for long periods of time around campus
    • Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
    • Ability to climb stairs
    • Ability to sit at a desk working on a computer

  • School Counselor - Part-Time

    Episcopal High School is seeking a part-time School Counselor for the 2019-2020 academic year.
    The Counselor will work collaboratively as part of the counseling team to support the social, emotional, and psychological needs of 9th-12th graders living in a boarding school setting. They will conduct assessments, develop treatment plans and provide short-term psychotherapy. The Counselor will also provide crisis intervention, act as case manager for students working with outside mental health providers, and collaborate with families and colleagues on behalf of students. This role could also include facilitating psychoeducation groups and conducting prevention programming.

    The ideal candidate will hold a master’s degree or higher in a counseling or related field and will have strong clinical skills with adolescents. Experience working in education or with school-based populations is preferred but not required. This position requires someone with energy and a sense of humor, clear and effective communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.

    The part-time staff member will work in concert with the Director of Counseling and Assistant Director of Counseling. The position is a 10-month, 30-hour per week position which begins on August 15 and is eligible for benefits which include excellent vacation with school calendar and a full benefits package including, but not limited, to medical, dental, vision, FSA/HSA, retirement, etc.
