History Class Helps PBS Make Lesson Plans

Students help PBS NewsHour craft lesson plan for their peers.
On May 9, students in Ms. Huntley’s U.S. history class helped PBS create lesson plans for their peers. Working off of the class’s theme of “government Mondays,” Victoria Pasquantionio, education editor for PBS NewsHour, asked the students to help create a lesson plan based on a Crash Course video about politics.

“I really liked the Crash Course video that we watched,” said Sarah Gray Castle ’17. “They are a good way to get general information.”

Ms. Huntley’s class watched a video about the role of political parties in elections. Pasquantonio asked the students to listen for key words and write down questions they had about terminology or larger ideas that the video didn’t explain.

The students talked the current state of each political party, including their candidates, and discussed the answers to the questions they took down during the video. PBS will use the materials gathered to incorporate into a lesson plan.
