As 19 Buddhist monks traversed into Washington, D.C., at the end of their 2,300-mile Walk for Peace, a lucky group of Episcopal students and faculty members got to witness and celebrate the end of the journey. “The loving kindness meditation that the monks led the community in was long and challenging, but it called us to relieve suffering for ourselves and for all beings in the world,” said Head Chaplain Rev. Betsy Carmody. “It was amazing to consider that people all over the world were streaming and participating in that meditation with us.” Admissions officer Tran Kim-Senior agreed: “The meditations the monks offered would be powerful in and of themselves, but to be able to experience it in the company of nearly 5,000 people was especially meaningful.”
Freshman Anabel A. ’29 reflected: “Seeing the monks was honestly a life altering experience. I was having a tough week, but seeing so many people gather for peace really brightened my mood. The emphasis on loving everyone and being kind really helped me to see a vision for a better world.”
