Seven student musicians were selected to participate in Virginia’s 10th District honor ensembles this past month. Sponsored by the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association and the Virginia Music Educators Association, the program requires students to audition and perform challenging repertoire alongside peers from across the region.
Under the guidance of Mark Carter and Asher Barreras, these students collaborated with other top musicians in Virginia to sharpen their technical skills and gain experience performing in a professional ensemble setting.
“These ensembles were a chance to swim in a stronger current with the support of your peers, teachers, and guest conductors to help you thrive in the more challenging waters of the music being asked of you,” Barreras shared. “I’m proud of all the work that our students did in order to participate at all levels at their best and look forward to helping them on their artistic journey as they find new streams, rivers, and oceans of music to enjoy.”
Congratulations to the following students who participated:
Winds: Lina R. ’27 and Claire C.’29
Strings: Claire H. ’27, Catherine Z. ’28, Emily H. ’29, Annie J. ’27, and Vicki L. ’29
