Biography:
María joins Episcopal High School after twelve years as an instructor and assistant professor in the Department of Spanish, Italian & Portuguese at the University of Virginia. During her time at UVA, she taught all levels of undergraduate Spanish, instructed courses in Latin American Studies, and co-founded the student-centered publication La Uva Magazine. She holds a double B.A. in Psychology and Spanish and an M.A. in Latin American and Iberian Studies from the University of Delaware, and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.
María teaches four sections of Spanish, serves as dorm parent, advises The Chronicle, and co-advises freshman boys. Having lived on the campus of the Blue Ridge School for the past three years, she is experienced in the boarding school environment. María and her husband, Matthew Richey, live in the apartment on the second floor of McAllister.
