Biography:
Evan Howard joined Episcopal High School in the fall of 2024, bringing both deep academic training and real-world experience in chemistry. Recognized as a George Wenzinger Memorial Scholar in organic chemistry, he graduated with honors from the University of South Florida, earning a B.S. in Chemistry. His passion for chemistry is highlighted by extensive research experience, particularly during his time in Dr. Juan Del Valle's lab. As an independent undergraduate researcher, Evan earned two publications, one of which was featured in the Journal of Organic Chemistry. In this groundbreaking work, he synthesized and characterized a novel unnatural amino-acid analogue, ε-oxapipecolic acid.
He holds an American Chemical Society–accredited degree, certifying him as a professional Laboratory Chemist, and has applied his expertise across environmental science—assessing air quality and hazardous materials—and pharmaceutical chemistry, where he focused on quality control protocols. This blend of industrial and research experience enables him to illustrate real-world applications and while reinforcing essential laboratory techniques.
Guided by Episcopal’s Portrait of a Graduate, Evan fosters creativity, collaboration, and ethical leadership in his classroom and on the soccer field. He wishes to challenge students to think critically, engage respectfully with peers, and tackle complex problems with curiosity and integrity—preparing them not only to excel in the field of science, but to become innovative, responsible leaders.
