Biography:
Born in North Carolina’s piedmont and raised in its mountains, Charlotte holds a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she taught classes on race, environment, and oral history. She is the author of the essay collection Potomac Fever: Reflections on the Nation’s River as well as multiple award-winning essays exploring the intersections of race, place, nature, and culture in the American South.
At Episcopal, Charlotte teaches two sections of American Studies and two English electives on environmental writing and creative writing, and serves as a faculty advisor to The Daemon and The Chronicle. She is also a member of the West Dorm team. A passionate naturalist and trained clinical herbalist, Charlotte enjoys trail running, foraging, hiking, gardening, gravel biking, and any other activity that gets her outdoors. She currently lives with her husband and dog in a very small town less than 700 feet from the banks of the Potomac River.
